Kava Jah, born Junior Johnson, in Cumberland, Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, is a reggae artist who writes, sings, and chants his own lyrics in his own style. Born into a family with musical roots, Kava Jah’s father Levi Johnson was a teacher of music at the Spalding’s Comprehensive High School and choir master in the church. He was a leader in the community both musically and spiritually. Kava Jah started playing music around the age of ten practicing on his father’s instruments and soon found his love for the guitar.
In 2007 Kava Jah entered the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Popular Song competition, where he received an award for most disciplined artist, thus creating momentum towards his first national performance in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba performing for the Military in observance of Jamaica’s Independence Day and returning again to Cuba in 2008. Kava Jah began working with Gumption Music Production out of Kingston, Jamaica creating, recording, and preparing to tour. In 2012 Kava Jah joined the I-Kronik band as lead singer and songwriter touring internationally and sharing the stage with artists such as Romain Virgo, Luciano, Protoje, David Hines of Steel Pulse, Junior Reid, I-Wayne, and many more. Kava Jah has performed on stages in the United States such as Reggae on the River (CA), Sierra Nevada World Music Festival (CA), Grand Central Park (NY), BB Kings (NY), with many more notable performances across the nation and beyond, reaching as far as Costa Rica, Anguilla, and St. Marten.
Kava Jah has been manifesting his solo career, pushing the limits of his lyrical talents and musical capabilities preparing to release his debut solo album. Recently, Kava Jah released a music video for his new single ‘Danger Zone.’ Kava Jah is a dynamic artist both on and off the stage, spotlighting his unique acoustic performances.
